Ephesians 1:5-6 He predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved.
Galatians 4:4-5 But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.
Romans 8:15 – For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons by whom we cry Abba! Father! The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God. And if children then heirs – heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.
James 1:27 – Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction and to keep oneself unstained from the world.
Verses like the above are some of the things that God has used in our life recently to convict and lead us to share some exciting news with you! I’m sure you’re on to us with our hints and all (highlighted, underlined and italicized words in the above verses)! You guessed it we are having another child! Nope, not biologically, we are adopting! We just started the process and it’s a long process, 2-2 ½ years away with loads of paperwork to do, waiting to do, and traveling to do. But we are very excited to see what the Lord has in store for our family!
The more we read and study God’s word, caring for the fatherless is something he has not only called us to do it’s something that has been commanded of all believers. No, adoption isn’t for everyone but that’s not the only way to obey in regards to caring for the orphans. If you are interested in knowing more about how you can obey this command read the book “Orphan Justice – how to care for orphans beyond adopting”. Or just call me because I’ve read it – I can tell you about it 🙂. We however, do feel we have been called to bring a fatherless child into our family, one who can call our family his own. It’s a great picture of what Christ has done for us – two sinners in need of a Father and he called us, predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ. What a wonderful picture of the Gospel and God’s grace! We are excited for that picture to become even more of a reality in our own hearts and in our own family.
We have decided to adopt internationally – Ethiopia to be exact! Why internationally instead of Domestic?
There is a great need for domestic adoption but we have felt called to adopt overseas. A child that may not have ever had the opportunity to hear the Gospel will be able to now. In many countries children in orphanages die young from disease or starvation. I may not be the best cook (okay I’m not) but no one is starving in our home 🙂 Giving this child the chance to live and the chance to know the Lord is worth more than words can express.
At this point in our journey we can see the benefits of adoption for the child. Bringing them into a loving Christ centered home is our goal. But we can’t wait to see what the Lord has in store for us to learn and grow closer to Him through knowing and loving the child he has for us! We also can’t wait to see what he has in store to show the world his Glory and Greatness through using us! God’s always doing big things and we are excited and humbled for him to use us!
